It is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the passing of Paul Gerard Tustain, the esteemed founder and chairman of BullionVault, who tragically lost his life in a motorbike accident in northern Spain on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
At 62, Paul was on a motorbike tour with his daughter near Pamplona when his rented BMW motorbike veered into oncoming traffic on the NA-1110 road, resulting in a fatal collision with a van. Despite immediate emergency response, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His daughter, following on another bike, witnessed the accident and attempted to warn him, but to no avail.
Paul's journey into the world of finance and technology began with his academic pursuit in computer science. He initially founded SAM Systems, providing back-office solutions for banks and stockbrokers. In 2003, recognising the need for accessible gold investment, he launched BullionVault, investing £275,000 sourced from personal funds and angel investors. The platform revolutionised gold trading by allowing individuals to buy and store bullion securely, amassing over $1.3 billion in assets within a decade.
Beyond BullionVault, Paul co-founded WhiskyInvestDirect, enabling investors to participate in the maturation of Scotch whisky. His ventures reflected a commitment to democratising investment opportunities and providing transparent, secure platforms for alternative assets.
Paul's insights and writings on gold markets and economic policies were widely respected. He was known for his critical analysis, especially regarding government financial decisions, and contributed thought-provoking articles to BullionVault's Gold News.
His untimely death is a significant loss to the financial community and all who valued his vision and integrity. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
For those wishing to learn more about Paul's work and legacy, his articles remain available on BullionVault's Gold News archive.
